Fayose is a symbol of PDP — Gombe governor

www.premiumtimesng.com (Friday, August 26, 2016):  Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has described his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, as the symbol of their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said this in Ado-Ekiti while laying the foundation of a new hall in the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe Aladesanmi III.

According to a statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State Governor, Idowu Adelusi, Mr. Dankwambo expressed satisfaction with the developmental projects and programmes executed by the Fayose administration.   More....

Ekiti Assembly passes anti-grazing bill into law

The Nation (Friday, August 26, 2016):  EKITI State Governor Ayo Fayose’s stance against herdsmen received a legislative seal yesterday as the Ekiti State House of Assembly passed a bill criminalising open grazing.

The bill, which was passed after the Assembly adopted the report of Joint Committees on Agriculture and Environment by its chairman, Mr. Ayodele Fajemilehin, after a public hearing, is now awaiting the governor’s assent.

If eventually assented to, it will now become a crime for any cattle, sheep and goat to graze on undesignated land for ranches in Ekiti.   More....

Four workmen drown in Ekiti dam

Four workmen on a World Bank assisted water scheme project at Egbe Dam in Egbe Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government, Ekiti State, drowned Wednesday evening after their boat capsized.

Among the four who died was a son of a contractor on the project, whose father was one of the survivors.

The workmen from Third National Urban Water Sector Reform were said to have begun work at the site on Tuesday before the incident occurred on Wednesday.   More....

Ekiti Assembly passes cattle grazing control law

Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed a new law to regulate and control cattle grazing in the state. This was consequent upon submission to the House of the report of the Chairman, Joint Committee on Agriculture and Environment, Hon Ayodele Fajemilehin. The new law is entitled: “Law to Regulate and Control Cattle and other Ruminants Grazing in Ekiti State and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2016.”

The Speaker, Hon Kolawole Oluwawole, said the new law would go a long way in curbing undesirable activities of herdsmen in the state.   More....

Four World Bank officials drowned in Ekiti dam

Guardian (Thursday, August 25, 2016):  Four World Bank officials had been reportedly drowned at Egbe Dam in Egbe Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Egbe Dam is the biggest of the six dams in the state.

Mrs Folasade Akinrinmola, the chairman of the council and the state police command confirmed this development to newsmen on Thursday.
Akinrinmola said that the incident which occurred on Wednesday’s night involved a team of seven contractors employed by the World Bank on an assessment mission to the dam.   More....
